A Realistic Military Film Location

Our studio in southern New Mexico was designed specifically for filmmakers who need an authentic Forward Operating Base (FOB) environment.

The set features realistic military elements including:

  • HESCO barrier perimeter walls

  • Military housing and container structures

  • Watch towers and defensive layouts

  • Desert terrain typical for Middle Eastern environments

The location is ideal for:

  • Military films

  • War dramas

  • Training videos

  • YouTube productions

  • Commercial productions

  • Faith-based films

Instead of building expensive sets, productions can shoot immediately in a ready-to-use environment.

WHY PRODUCTIONS CHOOSE THIS LOCATION

  • Our studio was specifically designed to replicate the look and layout of a real Forward Operating Base (FOB) used by modern military units.

The set includes authentic elements such as HESCO barriers, military tents, container structures and defensive layouts that closely resemble real operational environments seen in the Middle East.

For filmmakers this means one key advantage: no expensive set construction.
Productions can immediately shoot in a realistic military environment that works for feature films, YouTube productions, training videos or commercial projects.

  • One of the biggest challenges for independent filmmakers and smaller productions is the cost of building realistic military sets.

Constructing a FOB environment with walls, towers and structures can easily cost tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Our studio offers productions access to a ready-to-use military environment starting at just $1,000 per day, making it one of the most affordable military film locations in the United States.

This makes the location especially attractive for:

    • independent films

    • YouTube productions

    • faith-based productions

    • student films

    • low to mid budget features

Productions can focus their budget on actors, equipment and storytelling instead of set construction.

  • New Mexico offers one of the strongest film incentive programs in the United States.

Productions may qualify for up to 38% tax rebates on eligible spending within the state.

This incentive can significantly reduce production costs and is one of the reasons many major studios and independent productions choose to film in New Mexico.

When combined with our affordable studio pricing, productions can dramatically lower their total filming costs while still achieving a professional and cinematic result.

  • To support productions that need additional realism, we can provide a selection of military-style props and equipment.

    Available for productions:

    • military vehicles (when available)

    • up to 30 full military uniform sets

    • boots, helmets and tactical gear

    • prop weapons

All weapons used on the set are non-functional prop weapons, such as soft-air replicas or film prop duplications. No real firearms are used on the set.

LOCATION ADVANTAGES

Our studio is located in Deming, New Mexico, in Luna County — a region increasingly attractive for film productions due to its incentives, climate and open filming environment.

Distance Highlights

  • 1.5 hours – El Paso International Airport

  • 4 hours – Albuquerque

  • 4 hours – Tucson

  • 10 hours – Los Angeles

  • 10 hours – Dallas

This makes it easy for productions to bring in crew, actors and equipment.

Inside the FOB Studio

Medical Room

A realistic military medical room built inside a container, designed to match the proportions typically found on a forward operating base. The space includes the standard visual elements of a field hospital environment and features a clean, sterile look suitable for a wide range of scenes.

Office

This set represents a working office for higher-ranking military personnel. It includes a desk, operational workspace, wall maps, and a window typical of command offices on a military base.

The room is designed for scenes involving briefings, command decisions, and interactions between officers and enlisted personnel.

Barracks

The barracks set represents the living quarters for soldiers on base. It features bunk beds, shared living space, and an integrated bathroom area typical for military housing.

On one side of the space, a slightly more private sleeping area with a small desk is available, suitable for portraying a higher-ranking soldier’s quarters.

Hangout Area

This area represents one of several communal spaces on the base where soldiers gather during downtime. The covered seating area provides a flexible backdrop for casual conversations and everyday base life.

In addition to this space, the studio also includes other communal environments such as a chow hall and additional gathering areas that can be used to expand the look and scale of the base.

WEATHER ADVANTAGE

The studio is located near Deming in southern New Mexico, at an elevation of approximately 4,300 feet (1,300 meters)above sea level.

This elevation creates a very balanced desert climate:

  • Summers are warm but typically not as extreme as lower desert regions like Phoenix.

  • Winters are mild, rarely experiencing severe cold or heavy snowfall.

The region benefits from over 300 days of sunshine per year, which makes it highly attractive for film productions that rely on predictable weather conditions.

For filmmakers, this means:

  • consistent natural lighting

  • fewer weather-related delays

  • reliable year-round shooting opportunities

Built for Military Productions

Our studio was specifically designed for military storytelling. Instead of adapting generic locations, productions can film in a purpose-built FOB environment that already matches the visual language of modern war films.

More Budget for What Matters On Screen

By avoiding expensive set construction and high studio rental costs, productions can invest more of their budget into actors, cinematography and action sequences.

Reduce Production Complexity

With base structures, desert terrain and filming space in one location, productions can avoid moving between multiple locations and keep logistics simple for cast, crew and equipment.

Controlled Sound Environment

The rural location provides a quiet filming environment with minimal background noise, allowing productions to capture clean dialogue and controlled sound recording.

Advantages include:

  • no highway traffic noise

  • no nearby urban activity

  • minimal aircraft disturbance

This makes the location well suited for dialogue-heavy scenes and controlled sound production.

Night Filming Possible

The remote desert location allows productions to film night scenes with minimal light pollution, creating realistic military night environments.

Ideal for scenes such as:

  • guard tower watch scenes

  • tactical night operations

  • convoy departures and arrivals

  • base alert or attack situations

The dark desert surroundings allow cinematographers to create controlled night lighting setups without interference from city lights.

Drone Friendly Location

The open desert landscape surrounding the base makes the location ideal for aerial filming and drone shots.

Productions can capture cinematic footage such as:

  • aerial establishing shots of the base

  • overhead convoy movements

  • tactical movement scenes

  • wide desert environment shots

The unobstructed terrain allows for clean aerial visuals without urban structures in the background.

Flexible Set Design

The base layout allows productions to adapt props, vehicles and dressing elements to match different military environments.

With minor set adjustments, the location can visually represent:

  • Afghanistan

  • Iraq

  • Syria

  • generic Middle Eastern conflict zones

This flexibility allows productions to create multiple story environments within the same location.

Additional Filming Locations in Deming

Beyond the FOB base, the city of Deming offers several additional filming locations that can be used by productions.

This includes historic World War II aircraft hangars near the Deming Airport. One of these hangars was previously used for filming scenes in Indiana Jones. The hangars and nearby runway can also be combined with the FOB location to create the appearance of a larger military installation.

Hotels and Production Amenities Nearby

The city of Deming offers a wide range of production-friendly infrastructure close to the filming location.

Within 15–20 minutes of the FOB base, productions will find multiple hotels, restaurants, Walmart, hardware stores and other essential services needed during filming. Hotel rates and daily expenses in Deming are significantly lower than in larger film hubs such as Albuquerque or Los Angeles, helping productions keep overall logistics costs down.

Flexible Permitting and Small-Town Production Access

Unlike larger film cities where permits, traffic control and location approvals can take significant time and cost, productions in Deming benefit from a much more flexible and accessible permitting environment.

Independent productions can often secure locations, street access and filming approvals faster and with far less bureaucracy, making it easier to keep schedules tight and production costs under control.

Grand Opening – October 1

The official Grand Opening of the studio will take place on October 1, with the facility scheduled to be fully completed by late August or early September.

Productions that commit to booking the location now will receive an exclusive 40% early booking discount. If you are interested, we would be happy to share additional details and discuss your upcoming production. We look forward to welcoming your project to the studio.
